Project Navigator is working with the Responsible Parties, US EPA, the City of Monterey Park and developers to convert a former 35-acre landfill, adjacent to a freeway, into a local retail center. An anchor tenant will be Home Depot.

The landfill brings construction challenges but also opportunities for the construction of green structures which would use the landfill's recycled resources.

• For example, gas from the landfill can be used to generate power via microturbines
• The RPs leachate, collected from the landfill and treated at an onsite facility, can be used for landscape irrigation
